Move over Hamilton, there are some new critic’s darlings taking up residency on Broadway.
DEAR EVAN HANSEN about a lonely teenager who becomes an overnight internet sensation might be America’s first great musical about social media. “Pitch Perfect” star Ben Platt plays the title character and “is giving a performance that’s not likely to be bettered on Broadway this season” according to the New York Times. “La La Land’“ lyricists, Ben Paske & Justin Paul deliver emotional gut punches with soon to be classic numbers like “Only Us” & “Waving Through A Window.” DEAR EVAN HANSEN premiered December 4th at the Music Box Theatre but come see it before the word gets out.
Critics are also raving about A BRONX TALE: THE MUSICAL based on Chazz Palmenteri’s autobiographical play & film which premiered December 1st at the Longacre Theatre. The familiar story revolves around growing up conflicted in an Italian-American neighborhood in the 1960s. Tony, Academy & Grammy Award winner Alan Menken (Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin) provides the doo wop, rock and roll & motown music that powers the show while Glenn Slater provided books and lyrics. Find out why the New York Times is calling A BRONX TALE “just what the doctor ordered.”
