2018 World Series: Boston Red Sox versus Los Angeles Dodgers

Posted by Vanessa Lotz | October 22, 2018 | Sports

The 2018 World Series of Major League Baseball begins tomorrow night at Fenway Park, with two legendary teams meeting for the first time in over 100 years. It was in 1916 that the Boston Red Sox and (then) Brooklyn Dodgers met for the first and only time in World Series History; at a time when the Boston’s best pitcher was none other than a 21-year-old Babe Ruth. That series saw the Boston Red Sox win the crown in five games, thrusting Babe Ruth even further into the spotlight of his budding career.

Flash forward to 2018, and the Los Angeles Dodgers have appeared in 20 World Series: 9 in Brooklyn and 11 since their 1958 debut in Los Angeles. Of their 20 appearances, the Dodgers have earned six World Series titles: in 1955, 1959, 1963, 1965, 1981, and 1988. And their most recent appearance was just last year when they lost to the Houston Astros in an exhilarating seven-game series. Will this be the year that they claim the title of World Series Champions?

Fun fact: Originally called the Brooklyn Robins, 1930’s the team changed its name in the to the Dodgers, named after the Brooklyn pedestrians who dodged the streetcars in the city.

On the other side, the Boston Red Sox have won 8 of their 12 World Series appearances. They won the title in 1903, 1912, 1915, 1916, 1918, 2004, 2007, and 2013.

Heading into the Fall Classic, the Boston Red Sox are favored, holding the best regular-season record. They claimed the American League pennant in an easy five games against last year’s World Series Champs, the Houston Astros.

In contrast, the Dodgers defended their title as  National League Champion for the second season in a row. It didn’t come easy though, as the Los Angeles team had to play a fierce seven games against the Milwaukee Brewers in order to earn their spot in the 2018 World Series appearance.

Both teams have some of baseball’s best pitchers, with Clayton Kershaw playing for the Dodgers, and David Price pitching for the RedSox. Ultimately each team will have to select their lineups wisely and hope to fend off any injuries.

There is no denying that the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers are going to make this an electric World Series, and we suspect this may be another seven-game showdown. So don’t miss your chance to see history in the making. Grab your tickets today!
