New York City proudly holds court as the sports champion of the world. In addition to having a record setting 2 professional teams in each major sport, including MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL & MLS, it also plays host to international events like the US Open and Belmont Stakes. The US Open, is one of the four professional Tennis majors, and attracts 600,000 travelers per year to New York for the two weeks leading up to Labor Day. The final leg of the horse racing Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes, takes place on June 10, in Belmont, NY.
New York City is also the performing arts center of the world. Most notably, NYC is home to Broadway, the birthplace of American theatre & the modern musical. Distinguished venues around the city are plenty. There is the Lincoln Center, which hosts the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera and the New York City Ballet. Then there is the historic landmark & home of the Rockettes, Radio City Music Hall; which is the largest indoor theatre in the world and has played host to an array of events including concerts, comedy shows, Cirque Du Soleil, WNBA, professional boxing championship matches, the Grammy Awards, the Tony’s, the MTV Music Awards, the ESPY’s, and (finally) the annual Christmas Spectacular. Last but not least, is Carnegie Hall, which is known as the most prestigious concert stage in the US.
New York City is one of the global music capitals and is a stop on every major concert or comedy tour. While Madison Square Garden, The Most Famous Arena in the World, holds the largest audience, you will find many popular artists performing at the $1 Billion Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the historic Beacon Theatre, MetLife Stadium Ballpark, or Forest Hills Stadium in Queens.
