Star-Studded Broadway: NYC Travelers Gear Up for Glitz and Laughter

If you have clients heading to New York over the next few months, direct them to Broadway for celebrity acts guaranteed to call out tears, inspire laughter and leave travelers with memorable moments. From the always hilarious Amy Schumer to the delectable Denzel Washington, television, movie, music and variety stars are making their presence known in the Big Apple this season.

Divas, Modern and Memorable

Fans of classic stars and roles can catch Bette Midler in an open run of Hello Dolly, but the powerhouse diva leaves the show on January 14, 2018, so agents will need to act fast to get their clients a seat. Not that her replacement, multi-Emmy winner Bernadette Peters, is any kind of downgrade. A more modern diva, Amy Schumer, stars alongside a wacky cast in Meteor Shower, a show from Steve Martin and directed by Jerry Zaks that doesn’t pull punches or punchlines. Meteor Shower is running with this lineup through January 21.

Leading Men Drama

Denzel Washington is no newbie to stages of any type, having garnered both Oscars and Tony awards in the past. The brooding leading man hits Broadway in March in The Iceman Cometh, a flawlessly penned tragedy that takes place in 1912. Dramas abound this season, whether you’re looking for new storylines or old favorites like M. Butterfly with Clive Owen.

Setting the Stage

Clients may also be interested in unique presentations from actors who are always interesting to behold. John Lithgow returns to Broadway in Stories by Heart from December to March, and John Leguizamo brings out the snark — and the smiles — in Latin History for Morons. This one’s a limited run at Studio 54 after the show sold out off Broadway; so agents may need to get on the ball if clients are interested.

The men don’t get all the fun in the Big Apple, though. Uma Thurman is appearing in a new play titled The Parisian Woman. The story is from House of Cards creator Beau Willimon, and it’s his first stab at a Broadway show. Unsurprisingly for fans of Willimon’s Netflix blockbuster, The Parisian Woman has a political bent. Thurman plays the wife of a lawyer who is pulling all the tricks she knows to get her husband nominated as the Attorney General.

New York, New York: The Fun Can Be Found Everywhere

Whether you’re setting up a Broadway-centric trip for stage fans or just fitting a show in for vacationers who want to expand their horizons, don’t forgot about all the other sites and attractions the Big Apple has to offer. The holiday season is a great time to take in the sites; travelers who make it to the city center at the right time can view the iconic Christmas tree and might even be able to see the lighting, and New Year’s revelers don’t have a better place to party.

Families and those looking for less of a party can visit the Statue of Liberty, Museum of Modern Art or the Museum of Natural History. And for first-timers to Manhattan, a visit to the Empire State Building is almost required.
