After a two year hiatus, U2 recently announced that they will be hitting the road again to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of The Joshua Tree. The 1987 album and tour turned U2 “from heroes to superstars” according to to Rolling Stone Magazine and they have been selling out stadium-sized arenas ever since.
The Joshua Tree remains U2’s best selling album ever & includes U2’s only number one singles in the US: “With or Without You” and “I Still Haven’t Found What I am Looking For”. Influenced by American folk & Irish roots music, The Joshua Tree won Grammy Awards for Album of the Year & Best Rock Performance Duo or Group. The Joshua Tree is consistently cited as one of the greatest albums of all times by music critics and fans alike. In 2014, it was deemed by the US Library of Congress as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” and selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry.
For The Joshua Tree tour, U2 will perform the entire album live on each date of the tour as well as other of the band’s hits. U2 will also feature special guests The Lumineers, OneRepublic, and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds at different stops throughout the tour.
U2 will kick off the tour May 2nd in Vancouver making various stops in North America including an appearance at the Bonaroo Musical Festival and conclude the tour with a European leg in their hometown including a show at Croke Park in Dublin where the album was first born 30 years ago.
